Drunk Driver Kills Three Of His Friends

One man’s negligence took the lives of three of his friends. On January 10, 2014, six friends enjoyed their evening together, drinking and having fun. But the night did not end all in fun. At around 11:15 p.m., they pilled into their vehicle and drove off. At that time the driver’s blood alcohol level was between .10 and .18 percent.

While changing freeways from the northbound I-805 to westbound Route 52, the driver, 26 year-old William Cady, lost control of his SUV and crashed his vehicle on the transition ramp. Two of his five passengers, 29 year-old Taylor Bednarski and 23 year-old Shon Gilliam, were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, while 35 year-old Jeffery Becker died inside the SUV.

It was determined that on top of having a high blood alcohol level, Mr. Cady had also consumed marijuana on the night of the car accident. According tor reports, Mr. Cady was going too fast as he entered the transition ramp and proceeded to speed up, simply laughing when all five passengers asked him to slow down. His negligent and reckless driving lead to three of his friends loosing their lives and Mr. Cady himself was arrested.

Last Tuesday, June 2, 2015, William Cady was found guilty of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI charges. He was, however, acquitted of second-degree murder. Mr. Cady has been scheduled for sentencing for July 10, 2015.

This may come as small justice to the family members who lost loved ones in the accident, as Cady is forced to face the consequences of his negligent and reckless behavior. The families would not be without recourse though, had Cady not been found guilty. As the accident was caused due to Cady’s negligence, the family members of the decedents could have brought a suit against Cady for the wrongful deaths of their loved ones.
